W.R.C. Winter Meeting.

The first day’s racing of the Wellington Racing Club’s Winter Meeting was held under most favourable conditions, tho weather being perfect and the course in capital order. The attendance ot the public was much above the average, and the totalisator receipts showed an increase of £2,935 as compared with the first day of last year’s winter meeting. The following results came to hand after we went to press yesterday:— winter hurdles, Hotu 1 Dcrringcotte 2 Eodara 3 .All started. Won by two lengths. A neck between second and third. Time 45. Divs Hotu £5 3s, Dcrringcotte £5 7s, parliamentary handicap. Crusoe 1 Tukapa 2 Tigress 3 Won by a length and a half. Time 2 4|. Divs Crusoe £3 2s, Tukapa £2 Is. HACK AND HUNTERS’ STEEPLECHASE. Lochade 1 Mangatera 2 Leah 3 Won by three lengths. Time 4 54. Divs Lochade £2lls, Mangatera £2lls. final hack handicap. Woodleigh 1 Punawai 2 First Light 3 Won by a neck. Time 1 51. Divs Woodleigh £2l 2s Punawai £7 Bs, The no-balling of Mold. London, July 17. Mold, in a letter to the Press, states that 12 umpires are willing to testify that his delivery is fair. Expert opinion on English cricket ought not to come from the Australian bush. Football. Sydney, July 17. In the match Queensland v. the Metropolitan Union, the former won by 29 to 16.
