[PER PER 33 ASSOCIATION.] Stamp Act Amendment. Wellington, July 17. The Dunedin Stock Exchange has requested the Daily Times to say that the Press Association message from Auckland

yesterday relating to amendments in the Stamp Act does not bear out the facts of the case. The Government is moving in the matter, and though the committee of the Dunedin Stock Exchange were asked to formulate their views on the proposed amendments the Bill was in reality drafted by the' Crown Solicitor acting for the Commissioner of stamps. _

- Arrangements had been made to give a dozen of the Tagus troopers a good reception this morning. All the bank officers at Timaru have signed a formal protest against the Shops and Offices Bill, as it is unnecessary unworkable and calculated to injuriously affect bank employees. The protest will be forwarded to Parliament.

Christchurch Election. Christcherch, This Day.

There is no excitement over the election and the polling does not promise to be heavy. There are no indications of canvassing going on, and no crowd or touts round the booths. Considerable doubt exists as to factories and warehouses being compelled to close at noon. It is ttnderstood that some employers received legal opinion that it was not incumbent to do so; nevertheless the majority shut at mid-clay and so did the hotels.
