OUR KUMARA LETTER.
(OOfi' OWN OOEEESPOBTDENT.) Komara This Day. An old pioneer in the person of Alexander Murdoch passed away at Mr Hana's residence at dpe Terrace on Monday at the ripfi age of 72. Deceased was a native of Ayreshire, Scotland, and came to the Colony 3-3 years ago, he was highly respected by all who know him. The weather seems to have a deiitoreous effect on thu hoalth of Kumaraites. Throughout the lato spell of rain few complained but no sooner are we favoured with a change for the better than people sicken on oil sides. Our local hospital as a consequence is well nigh full to its utmost capacity while two out of every three one meets on the streets have colds. Youth seems no proof against its insidious effects and childien suffer still moro. Monday last I am informed no less than 70 children were absent from our local State School and the reason given in almost every instance was 'colds',
The formation of a rifle club is talked of among our local young men. Let us hope this will prove successful. We have too few amusements that anything tending to give amusement, and at the same time become beneficial, should be welcome.
