GOLD DREDGING.

Tho contractor for erecting the Stafford Waimea Creek dredge is progressing well with tho work. The frame of tho pontoons haß been completed. The Mokoia dredge is on good wash, and tho excellent returns being obtained should strengthen the shares. Tho Reeves' Proprietary wash is said to be improving. •' The Buller Consolidated dredge will soon be ready to start.

The Maori Gully pontoons are now almost completed. The machinery which is being made by the Dispatch Foundry well under weigh. The dredge is expected to be ready for work in December. A number of visitors visited this claim last month and they all expressed their opinion that it was ideal dredging ground. Tho Island Creek dredge has started again. She had a stoppage through a spur wheel in the winch breaking. The dredgemaster washed up for 70 hours only, 18 of which were on wash, for a small return. The lead now beginning should bo right up at the end of next week. This wash is a good sample. The tables are only saving onf-fourth of the gold at present. Tbe machinery is being erected on the Wareatea dredge, which should be working in eight weeks. The Fairdown pontoons' framing is finished. The contractor is waiting for the kauri for planking. The Rockl&nds dredge is getting near her own claim. The wash is improving all the time. The great drawback is the shortness of the ladder.

The A 1 dredge is working splendidly. The ground is difficult for speedy treatment.

Mr Spencer, engineer to the Consolidated Gold Mines of New Zealand, is again making an inspection of the worka in progress on the Company's claim at Humphrey's Gully. The Grenstone Junction Co's dredge which has been having some parts renewed, commenced work again to-day.

Waimea G. D. Co—The ground at Greeks, known as the Great Foxes, is to be prospected with the view of substituting it for the claim held by the Waimea G. D. Co, and which did not prospect satisfactorily. Hokitika Extbnded—Mr J. P. Smith of Dunedin, will start boring the Hokitika Extended Company's claim to-day.

Kohinoob ExTENDED—It is understood (says the West Coast Times) that the prospecting of the Kohinoor Extended G. D. Company's ground did not give satisfactory results, and the Company will likely go into liquidation. Reefton United —Mr Maynard is doing some further prospecting on the Reefton United Gold. Dredging Company's property near Boss.
