GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

The furnishings of Government House, Wellington, for the reception of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York, have been the subject of complimentary remark from almost ovc'ryonc who has seen them. It certainly bears strong evidence of the fact that New Zealand can design and construct furniture equal to that manufactured in the Old World; but, were it not for the enterprise of that now colonially famous firm of furniture manufacturers, Messrs Scoullar and Chisholm, resort to importation would probably have had to be made. His Excellency the Governor, and also the Countess of Ranfurly, have ordered that their pleasure and satisfaction bo expressed by letter ro Messrs Scoullar and Chisholm at the oxccllent way their commands have been executed Any firm that will keep such a staff of workmen that enables them to immediately put in hand such commands as those they have just executed, must earn the confidence of the people, and so secure an extension of trade obtainable under no other conditions. The work of furnishing the Royal railway carriage, as well as the Ministerial residences, was entrusted to this firm, who have now one of the finest manufacturing plants in Australasia, and arc equally capable of turning out furniture for the smallest cottage as well as for the Royal mansion.
