Remington’s Scouts took up a position on the fifth, capturing 19 Boers, including Barkhinson, an oath breaking and train wrecking commandant. The fight was sharp and at close quarters. Bayonets were used and one Boer was killed and two wounded.

A dozen cablegrams have been exchanged between Kruger and Botha. The latter is urging the acceptance of Kitchener’s terms, but Kruger and Leyds’ influence however prevailed.
