COURT OF APPEAL.

(per press association).

Wellington, July 4. The Appeal Court reserved judgment in the Bannatyne ease, in which the Crown resists tho repayment of a poll tax of £3OO for three Chinese who deserted from the Indralcma.

In McCarthy and another v. Barnctt, the point involved was the right of the Wellington Racing Club to exclude bookmakers or others from the Hutt Racecourse and tlie validity of the lease under which the Stewards hold the course. It is claimed by the Club that the case is distinguishable from that .of the ChristclArch Jockey Club, as the terms under which the lease is held are different. Judgment was reserved.
