Increase in Ten Years, 750,756.
The publication of the Queensland census returns completes the total for Australasia. Subject to slight adjustment, the population, of Australia, Tasmania, and New Zealand amounts to a
total of 4,550,651, against 3,809,895 in 1891, or an increase of 740,756 during the ten years. The movement in each State is shown in the following table, prepared by the ' Argus ' :

The greatest progress during the ten years has been in New South Wales, with an increase of 229,998 New Zealand is second with an increase of 149,761, Western Australia third with an increase of 132,771, and Queensland fourth with an increase of 109.174. The list is completed by_ Victoria, Bouth Australia, and Tasmania, in the order named.
The particulars of the population as regards sex are not complete in New Zealand. Taking the Australian States, however, the comparison of male and female population for the ten years is a 3 follows : MALES.
It is to the increase in tho male population, which includes the bread-winning part of tho community, that most interest must bea'tached, and the movements that have taken pLce are significant in more w.iys ih-vn one. It is to be nited with regret that tne increase in the Victorian male population is s) trifling when fair progress has taken place in other States.
