OUR KUMARA LETTER.

Eumara, June 26.

Constable Oulinane is once again an inmate of oar local hospital. It is generally felt that it is an injustice to leave a constable of . his delicate constitution in charge of this station. The late bad weather wa* enough to try the strongest, and naturally, Constable Culinane being little used to such conditions felt the strain very sererely, with the above result. It is to be hoped that he will receive a much-needed change by being transfered to a more suitable place when he next leaves the hospital. Let us hope it will be soon.

A meeting of the Literary and Debating Society was hold last evening, Bev J. B. Clark occupied the chair. The business of the evening was a debate on "Should Doot6ra.be empowered to terminate human life in extreme oases,*' Mr Sinclair supported the affirmative, and in an able speech set forth the necessity of such a law and the many good results that would ensue, claiming that the only arguments against its adoption are sentimental ones, and unworthy of consideration. Mr Sinclair was supported by Mr Mcllraith. Me Gilbert, with him, Mias Moretti, Messrs Foot and Eggelton supported the negative. A vote resulted in the motion being rejected by a large majority. This result was principally brought about doubtless by the young lady mentioned who graced the floor during the evening and carried conviction to the minds of all sceptlos by her eloquence. At least that was the general feeling.

A special meeting of the Eumara Fire Brigade was held on Monday night, when it was decided that the annual fancy dress ball be held on July 26th. The following new members were elected Messrs J. MoDlarmid, M. Eggloton, E. Brown, and A. Burrell. Resolved that a practice be held on the 26th, 'also a thorough overhaul of all apparatus.
