London, June 22. The London newspaper Sun says that Downing Street believes that General Botha has surrendered. The New Zealand Mounteds, Lieut F. J. Ryan was killed, and Private N. J. Atkins was severely wounded at Paardplaats on the 16th. Lieut Powles (4th New Zealand Rifles) has sailed for England. The Treason Court at Burghersdorp sentenced seven members of the Venterstad- Committee to terms varying from six months to two years in addition to a fino of £5,000. Washington, June 22. Mr Slocum, Military Attache with the British, reports that if the British displayed les3 bravery there would have been many less faults and more victories.
The slowness of General Buller's advance after Ladysmith was inexplicable. If the,Do!agoa Bay railway had been cut Kruger would have boon compelled to surrender. Tho British were too merciful.
The professions of surrender after the fail of Bloomfonteia undoubtedly deceived Lord Eoberts.
