There was a sudden drop in 1899, when only 90.8 per cent of the steamers continued their navigation during night hours. There was a small increase in 1900, but the proportion was then only 91,2 per cent., when 302 steamers, of a total of 3.441 tons, or 8.8 per cent, anchored from sunset to sunrise on the following day. The time employed by all steamers was not, however affected by the increase or decrease in the proportion of steamers the rate was 95.11 per cent. In 1895 %vhen duration of the passage was 19h 18min; in 1199, with 90.8 per cent, only the time was 18h 38min.
