OUR KUMARA LETTER.

[OUE OWN COEEKSPONDENT.]

Kttmaea, June 22, Word was brought to town about 6 p.m. yesterday that a well-known resident in the person of Mr. W. Whitton had met with an accident while at work at his sawmill at the Greenstone Three Mile. I learn that he has sustained a fracture of the leg, but there are no further particulars to hand at the time of writing. One of the oldest residents and best known identities of the district, and indeed of the Coast, passed away at nine o’clock last night, Mr. Henry Fitzsimmons, of the Dundalk Hotel, Seddou street, is the victim. “ Old Harry,” as his familiars called him, had been a sufferer off and on for some time past. His complaint, however, only assumed an aceute form on Thursday, when Dr. Scott was called in. Unconsciousness supervened at 3 p.m. yesterday and death at the hour stated. Deceased was an old pioneer, having been on the Duustan, coming from there to Marsden rush, and thence to Kumara on the rush breaking out here. At one time ho took a prominent part in everything pertaining to the interest of .the town. For several years he was a Borough Councillors and also a member of the Jockey Club. Latterly, however, health failing, he withdrew from active participation in those matters. A native of County Down, Ireland, he was born 66 years ago. Deceased was married and leaves a wife and five children (all grown up) for whom the greatest sympathy is felt. Kumar a residents will miss the familiar form.
