Inquest.
Auckland, This Day. At the inquest on Mrs O’Dowd, Dr Lowe stated that he attended deceased, and sUe stated that an operation had been performed on her the previous day by Dr Wilkins. A post mortem showed the organs to be perfectly healthy apart from blood poisoning, which was the cause of death.
Dunedin Education Board. Dunedin, Juno 20.
The Education Board carried a resolution congratulating McKenzie on his knighthood, and restoration of health, and also objected to the Minister’s refusal to sanction the Board’s scheme for distributing the extra grant on the ground that the Minister’s proposals will do grave injustice to a large number of teachers deserving of consideration ; but excluded from participating. They, therefore, ask the Minister without further delay to authorise the distribution of the grant according to the Board’s recommendations, and in accordance with the law.
Earthquake. Dunedin, This Day. The heaviest shock of earthquake experienced in Arrowtown for many years was felt last night. It was accompanied with a loud roar, and shook the buildings to their foundation. Railway Accident. Westfobt, June 20.
A serious accident happened this afternoon at Henley street railway crossing. An expressman named W. Green was crossing the line with an express and did not notice the engine approaching through his view of the line being blocked by the railway workshops. A collision occurred, with the result that the express was smashed to pieces and the horse injured. Green was thrown out and sustained very severe injuries, the precise nature of which are not yet ascertained. Green is an old West Coaster. Old West Coasters Dead.
Two old West Coasters died to-day— H. Curtis, aged 43, and W. Mailer, in business here for many years as a boot importer, aged 61. Farewell to Hudson.
A large gathering of railway men was held to-day to bid farewell to Mr Hudson, late Assistant Manager of Railways who lias been appointed Manager of the Tasmanian Railways. Speeches were made congaatulating him on his appointment and wishing him every success,
