DRUIDS SOCIAL.

Last evening at their Hall the Druids held the third of their series of Winter Socials. Despite the inclement weather a good number turned up. and were amply rewarded for braving the elements. The entertainment took the form of a scientific lecture illustrated with lantern views. Mr Rae, who is an ardent enthusiastic in scientific matters, delivered an interesting and instructive lecture. He ably demonstrated by the aid of bis pictures, the causes that g j to make up an eclipse of the son, both partial and total. Ho also showed s;mo very fine pictures of chrystalizod matter, perforated zinc and the action of different gases. The entertainment was thoroughly onjijable and interesting and Mr liae’s explanations were clear and concise. The programme was interspersed with songs and instrumental selections on the phonograph manipulated by Mr Scrivener. This part of the programme was also thoroughly appreciated. During the interval tasty refreshments were handed round by the Lodge Officers, «ffio wore unsparing in their efforts to make the social a success. At the close of the programme, a hearty vote of thanks was aceirdcd to Messrs Rae, Scrivener and Bradley for their delightful entertainment. A verse of God Save the King brought a very pleasant evening to a close. It is tho intention of the Lodge to hold another of those enjoyable socials in a month’s time, and as the price of admission is fixed at an extraordinary low figure, wo hope to see the little hall packed.
