They crossed the railway line at Molteno on the 13th, all well clad; with several horses to each and plenty of ammunition. After Sladen's Mounteds had captured their convoy, Dewet sent help and a hot engagement followed. Elliot despatched D<? Lisle's Mounteds to Bladen's assistance, and the Boers were routed; those killed included Lieut John Mair, late of New South Walea mounted : Corporals Hamp, Barrow and six men of the South Australian Bushmen.
