AN EXPLANATION.
{To the Editor.) Sir,— ln the report of the public meeting at Blackball I notice the name of James Irvine, complaining that the ferrymen were not doing their work. Now, Sir, I wish to contradict that statement, as in my opinion they are a pair of thoroughly reliable men, and two better men you could not get for the work. Owing to the regulations we bad to get a wagon with wider tyres, and all we can carry with five horses is two tons. The punt has got to take the leaders across first, and then the two horses have to pull the load on to the punt themselves, whereas with the dray and three horses we could carry the same load. I complained of the dangerous state of tho by-wash, and wish it to bo brought under the notice of the County Council. I am, etc., — James Irvine.
