Wellington, June 14. The warships Wallaroo, Mildura and Eingafooma arrived hero to-day from Sydney to be present during ‘ the Eoyal reception. & The Chinese of Wellington propose to present the Duke of York with an address. Died Under Chloroform.

Auckland, June 14. A sailor named Henry White, belonging to the Pyladcs, a patient in the district hospital, died while under chloroform previous to an operation being performed to-day. White had strained himself rather severely about a fortnight ,ago, and he was admitted into the hospital to be operated upon. It is stated that Dr Woodward was administering the anesthetic. After struggling violently for a little while White dropped hack dead. There were present when the fatality occurred —Dr Williams (who was going to operate), Dr Pabst, and Dr Inghs, also Dr Afford, of H.M. Pyladtls. Tie came-to while artificial respiration was being employed, but although everything was done to restore animation the patient' never breathed again. An inquest will bo held. Charged with Arson. Invercargill, This Day.

At the Police Court, William Ehind Gregor Hay, aged 43 years, was charged with burning down his dwelling at Orepuki. His wife was similarly charged. The male accused is also charged with having on ’Xmas night, 1894, burglared the Mataura .Post Office, Both wore remanded for eight days. Bail was refused.

Union Company’s Service. Dunedin, June 14 The Flora leaves Westport on the 25th for Tasmania, and will be temporarily employed in that trade. On the 25th the Mapourika will he withdrawn from the West Coast- ' Wellington ■' trade for repairs. The Wainui taltes up ’ her running, and then W sent to the slip for repairs. The Mapourika takes up the Wainui’s 'running for ,the time being.
