Government has purchased the Bingway Estate near Otauiau, the property of Murray Roberts and Co., about 2,300 acres of capital land. The railway runs close by. The property will be divided in five or six farms. Burned to Death. An elderly man named Charles Milligan, a farmer, was burned to death in his house at Sharban. A Mining Case. Wellington, June 8 In the Supremo Court yesterday the Chief Justice gave judgment in the case of Blaine v, M’Kerrow, claim for wages under contract by whichj plainfiff was employed to prospect, peg out, and report on mining claims in the South Island. The questions in dispute were with regard to the Mount Pleasant mine in Westland. His Honor found generally in favour of defendant but judgment will not be entered up until the accounts are taken, American Warship Brooklyn. Wellington, This Day. The warship Brooklyn sailed this morning for Manila via Sydney. Railway Promotion. It is understood M‘Yilly is to become chief clerk of the Railway Department in succession to Waite promoted to Dunedin. Sick Troopers. The Premier is advised that Trooper Mehvtens (Rangiora) who is ill in South Africa is slightly better. Stack, another invalid, is progressing favorably.
