Cardinal Moran in the name of the Catholic Terarchy of Australia forwarded Barton a protest against the studied insult to Catholic subjects of the Empire; contained in the Coronation Oatlv, both on religious grounds, and as an infringement of religious equality which Catholics are entitled to under the constitution of the Commonwealth, Barton replied that the protest would be transmitted to Chamberlain, and added that federal ministers sympathise with the proposed revision of the language of the oath. .
