Memorial to the fallen Heroes. Another British Suooess. [BV BLBCTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT.] [Per Press Association.] Received this day, at 9 7 a.m. London, This Day. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Lords Roberts and Milner have appealed to the public for £30,000 to erect in the eastern portion of Capetown, a cathedral as a memorial of those who have fallen in the war, and as a thanks offering. The King has agreed to be a patron of the fund. The late Queen approved of the idea.
Received this day at £ 21 a.m. London. Juno 6. Thirty-four miles westward of Warm Baths, Colonel Wilson with 240 of Lord Kitchener’s scouts defeated 400 of Beyer’s force escorting a convoy. They killed 37 and wounded everything, including 800 cattle, 18 waggons and ambulance. Three British were killed and 15 wounded.
Kruitzingcr has retired in the direction of the column under Elliott.
Many Johannesburg miners have struck against the present rate of five shillings per day and rations.
