THE AUCKLAND FIRE.
(PER PEE 33 ASSOCIATION.)
Auckland, June 1. The police are searching for Arye's body. They found the clothes and effects partly destroyed but no signs of the body. It is conjectured he endeavoured to get down the staircase and perished and it is thought that the body will not be recovered till all the debris is removed.
Ayre's was formerly in the Bank at Brisbane, and later on at Sydney. He came to New Zealand some four or five years ago, and his position as recognised by the Bank was sub-Inspectqr. He was unmarried and 50 years of age. Miss Wallace, one of the victims of the Auckland fire, was housemaid to the Hon. Geo M'Lean for eight years and left Dunedin to go to Auckland. Her sister who was telegraphed for yesterday is a Mrs Black wife of a Canterbury farmer with whom deceased visited the old country last year.
