NELSON CREEK LETTER.

(OUE OWN COEEESPOXDENT.)

The Nelson Creek and Pactohis dredges still continue to give satisfactory returns. The returns, it is needless to say, would he much better were it not for the difficu'ties to be contended with at present. The. Nelson Creek dredge is about to work her way past the footbridge. To do so she has to take part of the neap of tailings thrown up by the elevating plant of the New Bendigo Company in former years. The dredgemaster deserves great credit for the trouble he is taking to mitigate the inconvenience caused to people who have to cross the Creek at this place.

The bank of tailings which the Pactolus dredge has had to snift must be considered a big drawback, and last week's return of 26 ozs must be looked on as being very good. What it would be if there were no tailings to contend with can easily bo imagined. Contracts have been let for the building of the Victory and Aldinga pontoons, but from what I can learn the road leading to these claims is not considered good enough for carting heavy material over. But as the cost of repairing it would not be very much, the delay should not cause much inconvenience, and work on those dredges should be commenced at an early date. Work on the Trafalgar pontoons i progressing as well as can be expected, and this dredge should soon be among 'the gold winners.
