The Cheese Expert. Wellington, This Day.
Singleton, the new cheese expert to the Government, arrived in Auckland by the Sierra yesterday, and will visit the principal dairy factories in Taranaki on his way to Wellington. Magnetic Observatory. Wellington, This Day, The lowest tender for the erection of a magnetic observatory at Christchurch, was £ISOO over the estimate. Specifications will be altered, and fresh tenders invited. The Warship Brooklyn. The Premier sent a telegram of greeting to Admiral Reney of the American warship'Brooklyn, welcoming him to New Zealand. Yeterinary Work. The Government has decided to establish an institution for the training of cadets in Veterinary work. Embezzlement. Dunedin, May 28. H. D. Firth, mining registrar, at Queenstown, pleaded guilty to misappropriation of £697 in all, being rents on mining claims, and was remanded to the Dunedin Supreme Court where sentence will be passea on Friday.
