THE FOUNDRY AND FIRE ENGINE.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —I see from your report of the enquiry of the working of the Fire Brigade, at the late fire, that Captain Yinsen stated that the joint that blew-out was last made at the foundry, This .is not correct. The only time this joint was made by us was when the engine first came from Home. It was then made of the material sent with the engine, viz. thin brown paper steeped in oil. He also stated that at one time the manual was at the foundry for three weeks under repairs. This is not correct also, as the manual was never at any time in the foundry under repairs. About three years ago, we got an order to make a new air* vessel, as the one they had had burst. In eighteen hours after receiving the order it was finished and fixed on the engine, which was then standing in Captain Vinsen’s shop. lam etc.— J. Hasjblkton, Manager Dispatch Foundry.

(To the Editor,) Sir,— -In conversation with Mr Hambleton of the Foundry ho drew my attention to an inaccuracy in my evidence before the Fire Brigade Committee which recalls tojmy memory more clearly the fact that the manual was not at the Foundry the latter only casting the "air dome” of the engine which had got broken.— Robert, Yinsen Captain, G.V.F.B.
