GOLD DREDGING.

The actual yield of the Nelson Creek dredge for 67 hours was 22 ozs. 7 dwts. The working dredges on the West Coast won gold to the value of £2,800 in April. The Perry s Reward G. D. Company is expected to be ready to commenee work on Monday, 3rd June. The non-arrival of the screen has caused a little delay. The Okarito and Five Mile Gold Dredging Company, Ltd., was recently registered.' in Wellington, the nominal capital being £SOOO divided into 500 shares of £lO each.

Some good returns are expected from the next wash-up at Back Creek, It is a long limb since the claims had such a good supply of water as they have at present.

The following dividends have been declared by dredging companies during the present year January, £830; February, £2,673 ; March, £2,762; April, £13,203. .

Our Kuraara correspondent says Local dredging returns are so far not very sensational. The Junction’s of Bozs Sdwts 9grs for 105 hours, shows no improvement on last week’s return. This is explainable partly by the fact that there was a good deal of broken time owing to two or three small breaks in the machinery which though not serious cause annoying delays. Local shareholders have still every confidence in the claim, only a small angle of which has been touched.

The Greenstone Gold Dredging pontoon will I am informed be launched next Saturday. The dam is nearly completed and everything is expected to be in readiness for that dated,

The Three Mile (Greenstone Creek) dredge is ready to commence operations. The dredgemaster (Mr Donaldson) informs mo that he does not expect a return for two or three weeks.

The ’contractors for the Teremakau pontoons have nearly everything completed for launching. There is however a delay owing to the non-arrival of the lines and boat. lam informed that Mr Socerman, late dredgmaster of the Mokoia is the successful tenderer for the erection of the machinoay.

Although no news has been received from London in reference to the raising of capital for the drainage of Ross Flat, those who are interested in the matter seem very sanguine that the syndicate who have the option will be successful. The statutory general meeting of th 6 Westland Federated Gold Mining and Dredging Company (Limited) was held in Wellington recently. The provisional directors were re-elected to office, and Mr E. E. Ulrich’s appointment as secre tary was confirmed.

Sluicing and crushing operations are being carried on with very good results on Addisons and adjoining flats. The methods adopted for saving the gold are in most cases those which have been in process for a number of years passed. On several occasions new methods had been introduced hut almost invariably have had to bo discarded in favor of the methods adopted by the old and experienced miners. The claims being worked -are the Virgin Flat, O’Keefe and party, the Shamrock, Neill and' party, Halligan and party, Guerin and party, Golden Sand, The Venture, Long Tunnel. Gould and party, Milikin and party, and on Eadrshaw’s Lind and party, Collins and Gillow, and Costella and party. Most of the above claims have sufficient auriferous ground, to all appearance ; to give work for years to come.
