ROSS RAILWAY LEAGUE.
A public meeting of the Railway League was held in the Ross Town Hall on Friday night which was well attended, notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather. Me Grimmond the Mayor occupied the chair and the following Councillors were also present. —Messrs Healey, Collins, Bruce, Lopus. Linstrom, Woolhouse and Pedrezzie,
The Mayor in a neat speech said the meeting was convened for the purpose of urging upon the Government the necessity of immediately taking in hand the extension of the railway from Hokitika to Ross and pointing out the many advantages which the general public and the southern population would derive by the proposed railway extension. Ho also read a resolution passed by the Grey Borough Council to call a public meeting in support of the action of the Ross people. The Mayor then put the following resolution : —That this meeting recognise with pleasure the fact that the Right Hon. the Premier has promised to bring before Parliament the necessity of extending the Grey-Hokitika railway to Ross, and desires to urge upon the Government and Parliament the advisibility of at once proceeding to put the work in hand and carrying it to a successful isme.—Carried unanimously.
Mr Healy moved: That a petition bo sent to South Westland, Hokitika, Kumara and Qreymouth for signature, to show that the people appreciated the proposed railway extension—Seconded by Mr Lopus and carried unanimously. Mr Bruce sa d that there was in the pigeon holes in Government Buildings, Wollington, an old plan as surveyed some
years age, in connection with the proposed extension. He moved : That the Eight Hon, the Premier, be asked to forward tho said plan to the Eoss Borough Council —Seconded by Mr Healy and carried.
Mr Healey moved: That the Mayor and Mr Bruce be appointed as delegates to attend the public meetings which would likely take place at Hokitika Knraara and Grey mouth, to enable them to give reliable information on the many advantages to be derived from the proposed railway extension. —Carried unanimously.
The meeting then adjourned with a vote of thanks to the Mayor.
