THE ROYAL VISIT

[BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH —COPYRIGHT.] (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Brisbane, May 20. The Yorks reached Government House at 9 o’clock this morning. The weather was beautifully fine. The party disembarked quietly a couple of miles outside of the city, and reached the town without their presence being known.

At three o’clock the Duke and Duchess's suite, who had embarked aboard the steamer Lucinda, landed at the Municipal Wharf, and were received by the Mayor. An address was presented. As the procession moved through the city the greatest enthusiasm was manifested.

Two main streets from the landing point to Government House are beauti fully converted into avenues of palms. Queen street is festooned with greenery. In George street the most striking feature is an aboriginal arch in the form of a pyramid covered with ti-tree bark, ornamented with elk-horn, birds’ nest ferns, and a bark gunyah on each of the pediment, in each of which are two piccanninios. 50 blacks stand in pairs on the steps up to the apex of the'pyramid, which is surmounted by a giant grasstree, Victoria bridge is a mass of flags, garlands, streamers and palms.
