MANSION HOUSE WAR FUND.
To the end of last week, writes our London correspondent on April 4tb, the Mansion House Fund for the Transvaal War sufferers, to which New Zealand has contributed so liberally, amounted to £1,114,953. Of this sum £443,200 has been subscribed for the windows and orphans, £97,100 for the sick and wounded on the field, £lll,OOO for disabled soldiers and sailors, £196,000 for wives and families of soldiers and sailors at the front, £60,500 in response to the Princess of Wales appeal, and £207,125 for the Lord Mayor’s Discretionary Account. Sir Alfred Newton, the late Lord Mayor, who during his year of office, was trustee of the Lord Mayor’s Discretionary Account, has handed it over to his successor, the present Lord Mayoy. The amount received (including £2474 profits on investments) was £207,587. The grants inelude-: The Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Families Asociation £IIO,OOO, and many institutions have received substantial aid.
