THE CORONATION OATH.

(PHB PBESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYBIGHT.)

Sydney, May 15. The Presbyterian General Assembly I discussed the proposed modification of the coronation oath. The Rev. Dill Mackay moved to the effect that the Presbyterian Church of New South Wales enters a most solemn protest against any alteration. In th 9 course of a warm attack on the trend of the English Church towards Rome, he said it was not possible now to say which were priests. The Anglican Church had been ordained according to the form of the Church of Rome. The movement had the object of obtaining the Throne of England for 'the Roman Church. If the oath was altered in any degree it would be making an opening for the Roman Church to gam an ascendancy over the English Throne.

Eov Dr Clouston moved as an amendment that the Assembly does not offer any objection to such modification, as, while preserving Protestantism and the Throne, the oath shall be loss objectionable.

The motion was negatived and the amendment carried.
