Chinese Indemnity. Eeceived this day at 9 18 a.m. London, May 14.
The Times Pekin correspondent reports that China asks for a reduction of the amount of the indemnity fixed by the Powers. If refused a reduction she is willing to pay thirty annual instalments of 15,000,00(Maels, each to be drawn from the Likin Salt Tax and Native Customs, and asks the Maritime Customs to increased one third. Death Dues. Besides £79,000 in one personalty, the late Marquis of Batis estate pays the Treasury two hundred thousand in the shape of duties. Steamship Combine. The Hamburg-American Steamship Co. has purchased the "Obas" line (sic) consisting of seven steamers, for five million dollars. The Royal Yisit. The Exchange Committee of London have fixed the making up of prices of Northern Pacific railroad stock at 140, causing a drop of 32 points. Buying is not being enforced. Squeeze is relieved. Both Harriman Kuhu, and Morgan Hill groups of millionaires claim to have control of the railroad.
