GOLD DREDGING.
The manager of the Hokitika River dredge is recovering from the effects of his late accident, and is now gotling the machinery into piaec.
The engine for the Prince of Waies Dredging Company has arrived here and will be sent on to Hokidka shortly. Mr Wylde is in Hokitika arranging for its delivery at the Company's claim. The Mokoia dredge has drifted into the back channel behind Matthew's Island. Sho is reported 10 be quite safe, and is in a good position for launching. Messrs M'Millian and Thompson, contractors for the erection of the machinery on the Perry,s Reward dredge have made splendid progress with their work and expect to g'tvo the engines a trial run next week.
It is, understood says the West Coast Times, that the owner of some freehold sections next to the Leviathan G.D. Company's claim are taking steps to prevent the dredge from working too close to the boundaries of their properties. Mr T. H. Lee, secretary of the Old Diggings Gold Dredging Company Limited, reports that the company's dredge has been safely floated off the sand bank that it grounded on just below McKay's at Inangahua Junction. The dredge is now in courso of shifting down stream to her claim at Berlin's.
An absurd rumour (says the Times) has been current that, the Ross Day Dawn G. D. Company was about to go into liquidation owing to financial difficulties. It appears that the Day Dawn G. D. Company in Otago is winding up, hence the mistake. All the contracts in connection with the Ross Day Dawn are in a forward state and the prospects of the company are distinctly good. The following private wire was received in town this morning from Dunedin ;—" Golden Run returns —Dredge, 30 ounces ; pipes, 43 ounces for last week.
The fourth half-yearly meeting of the Grey Eiver Dredging Company will be held this evening at Itevington's Hotel. The business is to receive the report and balance-sheet, the election of two directors and auditors and general. The contractors for the Ross Day Dawn Company's pontoons have the tower on and but for tin continued wet weather of late would have had the job completed ere this.
A bore put down on the Reefton United Company's claim on the Mikonui river on the boundary and of adjoining the Koohinoor's claim bottomed at COft on highly payable gold, the last lift of wash being very good. Work will now be pushed on rapidly, a contract for the construction of pontoons having been let to Messrs Reynolds and M'Beath.
The Keystone boro is now engaged on the Koohinoor Company's claim and after finishing that property will bo taken ovor to Field's claim adjoining Holley's freehold on the Mikonui river.
Two more special claims have been up at t-hearer's Creek on the Mikonui river. Messrs Marchesi and party have taken up a 40 acre lease below the Ross Day Dawn's claim,
