Stdney, May 6.
The inquest on Darnley, one of the victims of the Sydenham railway accident on Feb 14, was resumed. Wylde, the driver of the derailed engine, had recovered sufiiciently to attend. His evidence threw no light on the cause. He considered the engines on the line were in good order, and he was driving at the usual spaed. He could assign no reason for the disaster.
The jury found that Darnley died of injuries accidentally received through derailment of a train caused by a high rate of speed and the defective characteristics of the engine, but whether the condition of the road added to the derailment there was no evidence to show. The jury added a rider recommending that the I, F" class engine be not used for passenger service excepting for slow trains, and be removed from the service as soon as practicable.
