SHIPPING INTELLIGENCE.
The Board of Trade have received through the Foreign Office gold watches for Mr D. Evans, master of the barque Oakhurst, of Liverpool: Mr F. Hannah master of the steamship Yoruba, of Liverpool and Mr H. Gruzelier, master of the barque Sita, of Newport, which have been awarded to them by His Majesty the German Emperor in recognition of their services to the shipwrecked crew of the German barque Oddine, of Hamburg, which was abandoned at sea on March 10th. 1900.
The reason why the Penartli did not return immediately to Westport after discharging at Hong Kong was that the Admiralty had secured large quantities
of coal and used very little of it owing to the limited naval warfare. At Hong Kong alone, the Captain informs us, there were 1(50,000 tons. In consequence of this the Penarth was used for coaling warships in various parts of the China seas, as detailed yesterday, and in carrying Government stores and ammunition.
