KOKIRI SCHOOL MATTERS.
(To the Editor)
Sib, —A good old proverb says : “ Little things please little minds,” and it appears to me that some people’s minds are so small as to be pleased with a very little thing indeed. “ Uitlander ” seems to have assumed a very rantnrous state of mind, through the result of the proceedings in the schoolroom on the 22nd April, and his own imagination. The local man of verse has appeared on the scene and constructed for him the little ditty which he favoured your readers with on Monday last, and which he has been warbling to his friends for the last week m excellent crackedkettle style. He has insinuated that the person signing himself “ Resident ” was connected with the out-going committee, but he is making a very sad mistake, as I have not at any time been a member of the Kokiri school committee, and have no desire to be one. But I should like to see an unbiassed committee elected by thj householders, and do their utmost to further the interests of school and district.
Regarding the so-called election, one 'of the points that I would like made clear has already been admitted by “Uitlander,” the presence of persons unqualified to vote being residents of other districts, not being the required • time in this district, and not being householders, and these are the forces which he informs us were gathered for the fray. Therefore, it is not surprising that when they were requested to leave the room and refused to do so, the Kokiri candidates withdrew their nominations and retired. This disinterested outsider will, therefore,’see that, although a committee seems to have been formed, they were not elected by the householders of Kokiri. There are other matters which may shortly be looked into, and thou perhaps “ Uitlander ” will become just a little bit interested. —I am, etc., Resident. Kokiri, May 2nd, 1901.
