TIMAEU HARBOUR BOARD. ISSUE OF UNALLOTTED BALANCE OF MORTGAGE DEBENTURES EOR £50.000.

Applications are invited by liie undersigned for Uxe Debentures remaining unallotted of an issue of £50,000, being 500 Debentures of £IOO each part of the Loan of £IOO,OOO authorised by “The Timaru Harbour Board Loan Act, 1809” for the purpose of enlarging and improving the present harbour and meeting greatly increased trade requirements. The Debentures will be allotted at not less than par, will have currency up to Ist January, 1916 and will bear interest at £i per centum per annum, payable half-yearly on Ist January and Ist July. Interest payable at any branch of the Bank of New Zealand in the Colony, free of exchange. Interest will run from dates of advances and be apportioned for broken periods, and investors may amlhgc to take up portions of the loan as their cap All becomes available during the period of six months from this date. Prompt arrangements must however be made by investors desiring to avail themselves of this . offer. These Debentures offer a much more favourable opportunity for investment than freehold mortgages at £4 per centum, the latter being liable to Land Tax, which is nearly equal to one half per centum. The benefit of the harbour works to the ratepayers at a moderate estimate amounts annually to £7O 000 or since 1883 to £803,307 or thereabouts. The revenue of the port has increased from £12,658 in 1890 to over £22,000 in 1900. The rateable value of the property in the District is £6,000,000 and the Board has full power should the necessity arise to rate the District for the purpose of paying the whole of the interest on • the Loan, In addition to general security on the harbour funds, lenders are absolutely secured by the Loan Act on this special rate to provide interest.
