WARD IN AUSTRALIA.

Ward interviewed Drake and Barton on the question of admission of. penny letters and had a further interview to-day to settle the matter.
At luncheon at Parliament House, Ward in a speech said that as a matter of fact it could not be said that public opinion in New Zealand in reference to joining the Federation had not yet been formed. As far as he could see the present policy of the colony was one of watching the development of Federation in Australia. He expressed regret at Seddon’s unavoidable absence.
Lord Hopetoun entertained Sir Edward Collen, representative of India, Ward and Peacock at dinner.
