THE CENSUS RETURNS.

Dunedin, This Day.
The census returns gives the population of the b trough of Mornington at 4007 against 3581 in 1890. The total of Fort Chaim.rs is 2056 against 1901, shipping 149. The interim returns are now complete fo: Dmediu and Suburbs. The unofficial figure-give the total as 53,294 The preponderance of females is marked in almost every district, the total excess of females over males in Dunedin and suburbs being 2518. This, however, is less than five years ago, whc.i the number was 2545.
Welling ion, April 30.
The Wanganui census returns for the borough of Wanganui thow a population of 7336, an increase of 1393 since last census, with the suburban population that of Wanganui is 10,522, aa increase of 2115. All the suburbs show an increase.
The official returns show that 1585 persons arrived in the colony in March as against 1303 in March 1900, and 2144 persons left our shores as against 2548.
