CONCERNING THE MAPOURIKA.
[PERPKESS ASSOCIATION.]
Nelson, This Day
A preliminary enquiry concerning the damage done by the heavy wave to the Mapourika was held this afternoon before Mr Heaps,. Collector of Customs. The evidence of the Captain, third officer, steersman, chieE steward, and Mr G. L. Nathan, a passenger, was taken. The latter said that they were at tea at 5 30 when a crash came, and water poured into the saloon through- the port windows as from a hose. Those at the main tables suffered, some being hurt by broken glass. The stewards and officers did all they could, and the passengers were soon reassured. The whole was so sudden that it was hard to say what had happened, and all was over in a few minutes.
