Heavy Sea at Timaru
Tijiaku, April 29. A very heavy sea yesterday and to-night did a good deal of superficial damage at Harbor works and carried away some valuable timber. A wash-out occurred on the main line south of Timaru but it was repaired before night. The sea is going down now. Rough on the Mormons. Christchuhch, April 29. Several disturbances occurred at the Mormon elders meeting last night. The crowd was very rowdy and tried to knock Elder Wilson down. The Elders took flight and were followed by a hooting crowd and the police had to see them home. The Chloroform Patient. The inquest on Joseph Lucey who died showed that he was frightened when placed on the table and in a highly
nervous stiito. The cause of death was shock, as only a very small quantity of chloroform was given, and nothing like a regular close. A verdict was returned, that death was by misadventure and not otherwise.
Rupture cf Blood Yessel of Brain. Gisjsorne. This Day. Michael O'Reilly, one of a travelling Wellington firm of photographers, suddenly became unconscious three days. and died without recovering his senses. A post mortem revealed a rupture of a blood vessel ot the brain. Tha Royal YisiS. YVellixgtox, This Day. Lady Eanfurly will not stay in Melbourne for the Federal Parliament festivities, but will come on to New Zealand as quickly as possible to prepare arrangements in connection with the Royal visit. There are to be three honorary commissioners in each of the four centres to assist in arrangements in connection with the lloyal visit. So far only the Wellington Commissioners have been appointed, viz • Jas, H. B. Coates, Nicholas Eeid and John Plimmev. Our Population. The population of Auckland City is 34,198 as compared with 31,424 in 1895. The population of Kawhia County is 1117, almost double what it was B 5 ths previous census.
Borough of Tnvorcargill contains a population of 6.212 as compared with 5,232.
