THE LATEST RUMOR.
Under the heading of “ Startling but Possible,” the Dunedin Star says : “From a source which we have always had reason for regarding as thoroughly trustworthy we have this piece of startling informationA rumor has reached me (and I give it for what it is worth) to the effect that the ensuing Parliament will be the last which Mr. Seddon will meet as Premier. It is understood that the Imperial Government will reward the right hon. gentleman’s splendid services to Imperialism by offering him the Governorship of a constitutionally governed colony. If the offer is made and accepted there must necessarily be a reconstruction of the Cabinet, in which event Mr. Ward will in all probability be called on by the Liberal party to direct their future destinies.” There has during the past few years boon so many rumors of a like character regarding Mr. Seddon—that have not yet come true—that we are inclined to disbelieve all—until rumor turneth out to bo fact. At the same time there is the probability of a change in the Fiji governor, and if so who is more fit than Mr. Seddon to take the position ?
