GREYMOUTH HOTEL ACCOMMODATION.

(To the Editor)

Sir, —I read with interest in your issue oi ! yesterday’s date, a letter on the above subject signed “A Visitor.” I will not deny what he says with reference to the accommodation afforded by the hotels in Greymouth, but I must take exception to his comparing them with the Christchurch hotels. The accommodation afforded by the hotels in Christchurch with about two exceptions is not one bit better than the hotels in

Greymouth. Can your correspondent quote one instance within the last ten Jears where a license in Christchurch as been refused on account of inadequate accommodation, although a great number of the hotels are wooden build-

ings of over 40 years standing. I am well aware that several applications for the renewal of licenses have been adjourned for a few days in order that better sanitary arrangements for the public could be made. His remarks about the bar business being altogether to good would cause one to think that an

awful amount of drinking is done in the- ij licensed houses of Greymouth. A\ hat ' rot? The youth of Christchurch can heat (he youth of Greymouth hollow as.; regards excessive drinking. j I am afraid that your correspondent .< | knowledge of the hotel accommodation, Ac., in Christchurch extends only to the elaborately appointed bars and well served counter lunches. —I am, Ac., Veritas Vancit. |
