[pee PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Attempted Murder and Suioide. Napier, April 27. A man named Walter Smith, retired mariner, attempted to murder his wife by stabbing her this morning and then shot himself in the neck. Neither are dangerously hurt. Gisborne Tohunga Case.
Gisbouenb, April 27. The jury found the accused guilty and sentenced her to twelve months’ imprisonment.

The occupants had a narrow escape. It was insured for £350 in New Zealand and furniture £2OO in Sun. The loss is £3OO.

Whpn the woollen mill at Milton was discovered to be on fire a telephone message was sent to the Dunedin Fire Brigade. The brigade would have gone out with some appliance, but no railway engine had steam up. Fire at Lower Hutt. Wellington, This Day.
Hosie’s store and dwelling and four other houses at Lower Hutt were destroyed by fire this morning.
