The Premier has received a cable message from Sydney stating that no person had any authority to recruit for the Colonial or the Imperial forces in New Zealand. The statement emanating from Christchurch a few days ago that some officer was recruiting there for South African regiment therefore lacked one essential—namely the person on whose authority the men are enrolled. CiiEisTcnuKcn, April 26. The contingent that is to represent New Zealand at the opening of the Federal Parliament left by the Warrimoo to-night. The new uniforms have been arriving during the week, the hist part of the order coming'to hand this afternoon, when the first full dress parade was held. The mounted men, natives and infantry, were dressed in khaki, the artillery and the permanet force, in blue with red facings, the engineers' blue trousers, red tunics and the Highlanders in kilts. A large crowd turned out to see the contingent off, the Garrison band playing them to the station, and the two local companies forming the escort. Hearty cheers were accorded to the men as the train moved off.
