GREYMOUTH HOTEL ACCOMMODATION.
(To thu Editor)
Sie, —Asa visitor to town I have been struck with tho excessive number of hotels, and the inadequate accommodation provided thereat. I had been led to look upon Greymouth as a go-a-head and prosperous town and judging from the interest taken in iccal elections —although J. cannot admire tho ail-too patent bribery—the people are live enough. Yet, T do not hosita';e to declare that a large proportion of your hotels would not get a license on tho East Coast. Then w y here. The town is prosperous ; tin bar trade so far as I can see-altogether too good, yet ask for accommodation for a few nights, and you are speedily awakened to the fact I hat some of tho so-called hotels are merely drinking shops. In Christchurch tho matter would rcccivo attention at tho hands of tho po'.ice and the licensing bench. The former wouM quickly report, and tho latter would speedily act upon such report. I do not protend to be a greater supporter of public houses, but when one travels he expects to bo able to get moderately good accommodation.— I am &e., A Visitor.
