TEACHERS' SALARIES COMMISSION.

The Teachers' Salaries Commission leaves for Blenheim and the West Coast this afternoon.
In his evidence to-day Hogben, fc'ecrelary for Education, said the number of teachers in the colony was not sufficient for a separate superannuation scheme, but might be made a Government Life Insurance scheme. New regulations for teachers' examinations are being passed. The Commission is of opinion 'there should be house allowance of about .650 attached to large schools in towns. The following grants have been made to Education Boards to enable them _to impart manual and technical instruction to teachers in their service;—Auckland £250, Wellington, North Canterbury, Otago £2OO each, Wanganui, Hawkes Bay, Southland £l5O each, Nelson and South Canterbmy £125 each, Greymouth Westland and Marlborough £75 each.
