The transactions of the Royal Mint, Sydney, for March go to show that the weight of gold received for coinage from New South Wales was 10.169 - 320 z; from Queensland, 60,4950 z ; from Now Zealand, 22,048'020z; from Tasmania, IBGOoz; from West Australia, 12.170 z; from South Australis, 4-51.320 z; and from other countries, 471.390 z. The expenditure of the Federal Government ior the month of March amounted to £2380, of which £1696 was devoted to tha salaries of Governor-General and Ministers, and the remainder to miscellaneous items. The expenditure divided on a population basis gives Now South Wales £IO4O, Victoria £902, Queensland £374, South Australia £287, Tasmania £l4l, and West Australia £132.
