The appointment of many anti-foreign provincial officials simultaneously with Voyron's announcement of the withdrawal during May of ten thousand French troops from China has booh much commented upon in Pekin. Christian converts are daily threatened. The New York Herald's Pekin correspondont states that Ministers have demanded the execution of four more provincial officers anl the oxih and degradation of eighty others. Lonoon, April 23. 27,000 Chineso troops armed with Mausers and 30 Krnpp gut's are strongly ontronched at three points in the neighborhood of Mukden. The Russians stormed one position losing 13 killed aud 22 wounded. Router states that Wutingfong, the Chinese Minister at Washington, has memorialised the Emperor to adopt reform beyond the Foreign Ministors' domands.
