Coal-boring oorrations at Ohinewai, in tho Lower Waikato, gave exceptionally good indications. Adtipth of GGOfi has been reached, and the experts are confident of reaching bituminous coal at a lower depth. Government is to be urged to assist in the boring operations.

Tito Taicri Advocate states that the result of the vote of the members of the Mosgicl Presbyterian Church with regard to the use of the individual communion cup was that 74 voted for it, and 40 against it. Some 90 members did not vote. The result will be forwarded lo the Dunediu Presbytery to be dealt with.

The ambulance wagon in charge of the Chi'istchurch Medical Corps halted for a few minutes in a main street on Good Friday and asked for a "shlllin's worth of hot cross buns." The corps has (says the Press) been called some peculiar names —the Mustard Poultice Brigade being'one of the most popular—but it had never previously been taken for a baker's turnout.

The congestion at the New Plymouth goods station continues to cause great inconvenience. The Takapuna's cargo, landed at the breakwater on Tuesday week, was still in,the truck ion tho following Saturday.

Oamaru has an intention of assisting the Dunedin Queen's Memorial Committee, and the Mayor of the borough is contemplating tho calling of a meeting to inauguarato a schemo for North Otago. The newly-formed township of Fortification, near Milton (Otago), comprises 66 sections, the area of which is a little over 13 a«ns. The total purchase money amounted to £529 odd, cr roughly £'S 3s per section.

At the Oamaru Polico Court, Alexander Aitcheson was fined £2 and costs on a charge of breaking an insulator on the telegraph line. Mr Bagshaw, of the Telegraph Department, deposed that within the last six weeks he had to put up 310 insulators to repair breakages, at a total cost of £Bl 7s.

The tourist traffic to Ilanmer Springs during the past two months has been tiie best this season. Over two thousand baths were taken during tho month of March. The accomodation houses are overcrowded at present, many visitorhaving to bo content with shakedowns in bathrooms and on verandahs.
