BLACKBALL COAL MINE.
The fire in the Blackball mine is now extinguished. Tho pumping was stopped at four o’clock yesterday afternoon. Today tho manager intends to sink three shafts in bnord where tho fire ooeured which will be filled with water. Mr Scott gets great credit from the miners for tho admirable way in which ho handled the fire. He has for some time realised tho danger from tho outbreaks of fire caused by crushed coal becoming heated and now intends having water laid on in pipes all over the mine with rolls of hose here and there ready to turn on at a minutes notice An excellent pressure can bo got at little expense. Tho necessary pipes have, already been ordered. Tile Fire Brigade detachment and appliances will likely return to town tonight.
