,1 Christchvrcu, April IS. A deadlock has arisen as to the residence of the Pioyal party hero. Arrangements had been made by the Government and contract signed for them to stay at Coker’s Hotel, but the Governor on his arrival here objected to the position of the hotel and to the absence of gardens. Endeavours are being made to find accomodation elsewhere for the Duke and Duchess while the suite would stay at Coker’s. The proprietor, however, contends that according to agreement he is entitled to the patronage of the Duke and Duchess, failing this he objects to take the suite. Lawyers have been engaged all day on the matter, and it is now referred to the Premier. Received this day, at 9 25 a m. London, April 18. Owing to tho plague at Capetown there is a prospect of the Ophir returning via tho Red Sea. Tho Times suggests going to Halifax via Cape Horn, thus avoiding the Rod Sea in August. Wellington, April IS. 1000 lamps of eight candle power each are to be used in illuminating the wharves by tho Wellington Harbor Board during the Duke of Cornwall’s visit. The Board will also contribute £IOO towards the cost of tho marine display of fireworks.
